An innovative French course
combining CEFR language proficiency criteria and Ontario curriculum requirements
to help students improve their performance in academic achievement and communicative fluency.
French Course Level A1 (Beginner) is further broken down into three sessions A1.1, A1.2 and A1.3. Each
session include 24 hours classroom study. At the end of session 3, student is expected to achieve Grade 5 Core
French level in public schools. Students at this level can:
understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of
needs of a concrete type
introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where
they live, people they know and things they have
interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help
read a variety of simple materials, 100 to 150 words long, and demonstrate understanding by using
appropriate pronunciation, liaison (e.g., nous avons), intonation, and language in familiar contexts
write ideas and facts, or provide written responses to simple questions, using simple sentences
French Course Level A2 (Intermediate) is further broken down into three sessions A2.1, A2.2 and A2.3. Each
session include 24 hours classroom study. At the end of session 3, student is expected to achieve Grade 7 Core
French level in public schools. Student at the A2 level can:
listen to and talk about short, oral texts in structured and open-ended situations and can function in social
situations
read a variety of classroom and simple authentic materials, 200 to 400 words long, and demonstrate
understanding;
communicate information and ideas in writing, in structured and open-ended situations, for different
purposes;
identify and use the vocabulary and the grammar and language conventions appropriate in making simple
transactions in shops, post offices or banks; get simple information about travel
Advanced French Writing and Reading: For Grade 2 to Grade 7 Immersion or Extended students
The courses is intended to provide complementary and enhanced supports in French writing and reading to help
students succeed in French Immersion program and stimulate their interest in reading and writing French. The
teacher will adapt Ontario curriculum and CEFR contents to learning environments. Students improve their
capabilities through role playing, individual/ team projects (presentation, storytelling) or writing exercises with tales
or stories. Grammar, vocabulary, language conventions (rules of pronunciation, linking words and correction of
common anglicisms) are the focus of the course.
Gifted Math in French: For Grade 2 to 7 Immersion or Extended students, the course provides challenge
beyond regular school math curriculum, strengthens creative problem solving, and logical reasoning skills. It
strengthens creative problem solving and logical reasoning skills, further develops gifted students' intellect in math
otherwise can not be addressed in schools
DELF A1/A2 Exam Preparation:This course is a preparation for the level A1/A2 DELF exam.
· Becoming familiar with each of the four components of the exam - reading, listening, writing and speaking - through a variety of exercises and mock exams;
· Providing you with key insights and advice to optimize your success rate at the exam.
Pre-IB French Preparation Course:For Grade 7 Core French students, the course takes into account both the level of the students at the time they register and the content required by the International Baccalaureate. The course combines academic excellence and a strict adherence to pedagogical principles. The course is intended to cultivate students with a solid linguistic reinforcement of oral and writing skills, as well as the areas of study offered in the International Baccalaureate program. The courses are the ideal complement and enhancement to the French courses done in school. By the end of the program, students must be able to:
- Participate in a conversation and make a 3-4 minute oral presentation and afterwards answer questions both on the presentation and of a general nature.
- Answer comprehension questions pertaining to a CEFR B1-level text.
- Write a 250-word text at a mid-A2 to B1 CEFR level. The subject are articles, speech, films critics
